‘SUNDARA KANDA’ Puja Parayana with ‘VISHNU SAHASRANAMA STOTRA’ at your house

‘Sundara Kanda’ is the divine story of ‘Lord Rama’, ‘Sri Sita’ and ‘Rama-bhakta Hanuman’.  It is the inspiring story of how Hanuman sets out in search of abducted Sita, held captive in Lanka by the mighty demon-king - ten-headed Ravana.  He undertakes this holy mission on behalf of his master Sri Rama and deputed by his king, Sugriva.

It is the captivating story of how Hanuman crosses the long and deep sea, overcomes his hurdles bravely, have the darshan of Sita in Lanka, kills multitudes of demons, sees Ravana and warns him in the capacity of ‘Rama Dootha’ and, to teach the demons a fitting lesson sets Lanka, ablaze.

He returns to Mahendragiri, meets fellow Vaanaras, sees Rama and gives him a detailed account of his visit to Lanka, conveys Him about Sita’s welfare and her message to the Lord.  Rama, pleased with Hanuman’s devoted service, his valiant efforts and his gallantry, blesses him and hugs him out of sheer gratitude and love.

This is, in essence, the story of ‘Sundara Kanda’, but there’s a lot more to it.  It conveys a philosophical meaning or Tatvartha too for those who’re spiritually inclined.  ‘Sundara Kanda’, a part of the holy epic Ramayana by the great sage of yore, Valmiki, is avidly read by countless devotees as sacred parayana, seeking divine intervention and relief from their woes, crisis situations and worldly problems.

It has 68 sargas or chapters.  Each has a specific result.  Faith and devotion can move even mountains!  In keeping with this staunch principle it answers the prayers of devotees and bestows on them spiritual benefits too.  For those endowed with this trust the grace of the trinity gods – Rama-Sita-Hanuman – descends and fulfills their dharmic desires.  Its recital is auspicious for the gruha and its inmates.

For self-study, however, initiation by a guru is essential as it contains Bija aksharas or sacred letters.

‘Sundara Kanda’ contains over 2800 Sanskrit slokas.  They’ve the potential to uplift the devotees materially and spiritually.  It grants them prosperity, health and wellbeing.  If householders have this puja parayana in their homes, the Lord grants their wishes, blesses them and protects them.  He won’t fail those who pray and seek His help.  Whoever does this puja in their houses or gets it done by a Brahmin, have always been blessed by the Lord.  Those benefited from it vouchsafe it.

I’ve been performing Sundara Kanda’ puja parayana combined by Vishnu Sahasranam Stotra (a unique stotra or shantipath of unparalleled powers) in Kshetras, temples and gruhas.  I’m duly initiated into this puja parayana by my guruji.  The parayana can be done on any day of the month – no thithi, vaara, nakshatra is seen.  A 3-day parayan is ideally suited for it (starting from morning 7.00 and closing by afternoon 1.30 approx.), taking care of all its aspects including a brief pravachan on this sacred text.
